PROGRAMS
| LECTURES AND MUSIC We have found that exposure to
people who are highly accomplished in their field is one of the great blessings in
our lives. We have been enriched by sharing the company of many of them. Many members of The Movement Center community
have shared their expertise with us in lectures and other formats. Visiting teachers, scholars and experts on other topics such as alternative
health often visit and speak at the Center.
During the past several years,
Professor Alexis Sanderson of Oxford University has lectured on the philosophy of Kashmir Shaivism.We've been treated to outstanding musical performances. In particular, Maestro Ali Akbar Khan, whom Swamiji considers the finest Indian classical musician in the world, has performed at The Movement Center nearly every year since the 1970's. His son Alam made his public debut at a concert with his father here in Portland. Alam, now touring on his own, recently joined us for a concert in July 2008. We've also enjoyed performances of Newari tantric dances by a vajracharya from Kathmandu, Bhutanese sacred dance by Lama Karma Namgyel, and chanting by the Drepung Loseling monks. In 2009, we'll be offering a series of talks on current topics relating to health and well-being by local health practitioners as well as a series of workshops in personal growth and leadership.
